DONATION OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT FROM CHINA DEVELOPMENT BANK TO THE KINGDOM OF MOROCCO TO COMBAT THE PANDEMIC 16 May 2020

On the evening of 14 May, after having travelled 10,000 km, a Royal Air Maroc plane from Beijing landed at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, loaded with medical equipment, including 36 respirators and 98,000 masks donated by CHINA DEVELOPMENT BANK, a Chinese State Institution, to the Kingdom of Morocco. The value of this donation is the highest of all those made to date and abroad by the CBD.

In China, there is a saying: « He who gives a drop of water will receive spring water ».

At the beginning of last February, when the health situation was serious in China and Morocco was not yet affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the BANK OF AFRICA – BMCE GROUP, alerted to the inadequacy of the medical equipment available, donated 150,000 surgical masks and 900,000 medical gloves to the People’s Republic of China for the Province of Hubei.

Now that the need for medical equipment is growing in Morocco, CHINA DEVELOPMENT BANK has taken the initiative to show its solidarity with the Moroccan population by offering appropriate equipment to help effectively combat the pandemic.

Through this type of initiatives, CHINA DEVELOPMENT BANK aims to strengthen its collaboration with financial institutions such as BANK OF AFRICA – BMCE GROUP, supporting the collaboration between the Kingdom of Morocco and the People’s Republic of China to combat the pandemic and, beyond that, within the framework of their bilateral economic and social cooperation.

Thus CDB intends, with its Moroccan partners, to make an effective contribution to the realisation of joint and successful actions that are part of the "New Silk Roads" Initiative.
